Comment Critique for Project 3
- View all classmates videos online in their entirety and add a simple comment to let me know you were there. A “Here” will be sufficient.
- Provide thoughtful & constructive feedback on 5 of the videos (give suggestions on what is working, what is not, etc.. Needs to be more than “LOL! I like it!”)
- Respond to the feedback you are given on your video.
- Select LIKE (you need to be logged in) on any videos you would like to discuss in class next week. Everyone must mark at least 1 video with LIKE. You can certainly like more than one.
- Next week we will only critique the most LIKEd videos in class, so make sure to select the ones you really want to discuss, and have something to say about them.

Complete Project 3
- Video projects should be uploaded to Vimeo and added to the EMAC Fall 2008 Group by the end of class.
- In addition, make sure to transfer a copy of the exported video file to the computer up front.
- I will have a folder called Project 3 in my folder on the Work Drive. Make sure the file has your name somewhere in the title.
Exporting your video from Final Cut Express
- We’ll use Vimeo’s guide (found here) for our compression settings.
- In Final Cut, go to File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion…
- Select Options… next to Format: Quicktime Movie.
- Under Settings… use the information provided by Vimeo to fill out the video settings. Select OK when done.
- Under Size... use the information provided by Vimeo to fill out the size settings. Select OK when done.
- Check Sound and select Settings… Use the information provided by Vimeo to fill out the sound settings. Ignore the 128kbps suggestion. Select OK when done.
- Select OK one last time, be sure to save your video somewhere on the Work drive where you can easily find it, and choose Save.
- Compressing and uploading video can take quite a while. Be sure to factor in at least 1 hour at the end of class to make sure that you have enough time.
- Before attempting to upload the exported video, be sure that everything looks/sounds normal and that the file size is under 500MB. Select the file and press Command+I to see file info in the Finder.
Uploading to Vimeo and adding to Group
- Log in to Vimeo and select the Upload a video button.
- Select Choose a file to upload… and find your exported video on the Work drive.
- When done title it, add a brief description of the video, and add any tags (words which make your video more findable on the site).
- Select Save all changes and then Go to video.
- From your video’s page, select the Add tab next to More.
- Check Add to Groups > EMAC Fall 2008 and you’re done!

Backing up your work to an external drive
- Copy both the .fcp file and the folder you created to use as a scratch disk (use Final Cut Express > System Settings > Scratch Disks if you don’t recall the location).
- If you do not save all of this, your project files will not be backed up properly and will be at the mercy of others using the lab.
Restoring from an external drive in the Bunting labs
- If your work was deleted form the Work drive…
- Copy both the .fcp and project folder containing Scratch Disk files to the Work drive
- Set Scratch Disk to the copied project folder (Final Cut Express > System Settings > Scratch Disks)
- Open .fcp file
